The shop, the people, the approach
A West Michigan studio building cabinetry, millwork, and furniture for homeowners, designers, and builders who care about the details that outlast trends.
Craft, precision, and clear communication
Riverworks started as a two-person shop taking on built-ins for a handful of local architects. A decade later, the team and the work have grown, but the approach has not: scope the job well, draw it carefully, build it in the shop, and install it with the same hands that built it.
We partner with homeowners, designers, and builders who expect tight tolerances, honest timelines, and finishes that hold up in daily use. Every project is drafted, built, and installed with the same team guiding the work from first conversation to final punch list.
Based in Grand Rapids, we serve West Michigan and surrounding areas. Use this sample page to evaluate layout, typography, and how your own story and credentials could read on a finished site.

From first call to final walkthrough
Each step has a deliverable and a checkpoint, so you always know what is next and what is expected from you.
-
Consult
A scoping call or site visit to understand the space, the goal, and the budget range. You receive a written summary and a ballpark before design work begins.
-
Design
Measured drawings, material and hardware selections, and a fixed-price proposal. Revisions are included and explicitly noted in your agreement.
-
Build
Shop fabrication begins once the deposit clears and drawings are approved. You get progress updates with photos at key milestones.
-
Install
On-site fitting, leveling, and adjustment. Protection for floors and surrounding finishes, and a tidy workspace at the end of each day.
-
Finish
Final finish application or touch-up, a walkthrough punch list, and a care sheet so your piece holds up to daily use for years.
Species we build in
Most projects use domestic hardwoods, selected for stability, grain, and how they age. Imagery below is representative.
-
White Oak
Straight grain, warm neutral tone. A shop favorite for kitchens and built-ins.
-
Black Walnut
Deep chocolate tones with rich figure. Best for feature pieces and furniture.
-
Hard Maple
Pale, close-grained, and tough. Ideal for painted casework and heavy-use surfaces.
-
American Cherry
Warm reddish tone that deepens with age. Classic for traditional kitchens and libraries.
-
White Ash
Pronounced grain with a light base. Great for contemporary builds with a softer feel.
-
Sapele Mahogany
Ribbon figure and warm red-brown tone. Reserved for entry doors and furniture accents.
Have a different species in mind? Reclaimed stock, rift-sawn cuts, and specialty veneers are available on request and priced per project.
